Good tune.
I think "Mojo" magazine summed it up recently when they wrote that "the time when you know that you are middle-aged is when all current music begins to sound like crap----although at the moment, it really is crap."
Personally, I think the current music scene is as bleak as it has ever been in my lifetime. And I say that as someone who has constantly lent an ear to the newest sounds.
I can't recall a time when the Billboard charts were as devoid of talent. The only music remotely interesting that has charted in recent years has been a tiny handful of bands like Radiohead.
These days, I find myself listening mostly to electronica artists like Vladislav Delay, Fennesz and Pan Sonic. Outside of Europe, most of these artists are pretty much unknown. It's daring, challenging music (indeed, a lot of people would question whether it is "music" at all).
But I've alway felt the best music is that which is risk-taking and challenging. I've always admired artists who follow their muse and give little thought to shifting units or radio play.

I wanted to wish you a happy and prosperous new year. May we both hold the left-wing banner high in the coming year.
