Baby, I've Been Wrong Before

Are you old enough to remember the old show Shindig?

Related to the previous post, here's a blast from the past:

I was only 9 in 1965, watching Shindig on backwoods TV. I get the impression it would have been a pretty good time to be 29, and living someplace like London or New York.

Performed by Cilla Black. Song by Randy Newman.

Yeah, I remember :Shindig" and its cousin "Hullabaloo" too. I liked Cilla's "You're My World" better than this one, though. And she sure beats the hell out of Sarah Palin!

In hindsight, NY, London, and LA were ALL hot places to be back then (and SF slightly later). Baby boomer culture galore!

I'm fond of this song and was surprised to discover that it was written by a 21-year-old Randy Newman. Seems like a song that would have come from an "old soul." As a songwriter, he made a lot of careers for people who covered his work. He was to pop music what Willie Nelson has been to country-Western.

Jack,I was trying to rememember that song "You're My World" !

Hi Manifesto Joe,
First time here,I linked from Jack's site.I was just in Texas for a couple days, work related and I had to go.With a work group made up of teabaggers.I try to keep my mouth shut around them much of the time but it's difficult. I understand how you have to keep a low profile.

Hi, and welcome, Oso:

Actually, I could get FIRED for doing this, and I understand that it would stand up in court. So much for our First Amendment. Our wonderful Founding Fathers didn't foresee a lot of this. Freedom of speech can come with a terrible price -- like giving up your paycheck, going hungry, homeless, etc. So, I'm doing this under a nom de plume.

McCarthyism is alive and well. So much for the land of the free. Here, you're only free if you're wealthy and politically far-right.
