An Intriguing Postscript: 'The Real Sarah Palin'

Here's a most interesting link regarding Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, McCain's VP choice. The picture that emerges is that of a ruthless, right-wing, fiscally irresponsible opportunist who abysmally mismanaged her hometown on her way to some sort of national prominence. -- MJ

That "The Real Sarah Palin" is a good piece.

You know, it's interesting: I've seen a few articles that are the right-wing equivalent of this piece on wingnut sites.

However, there's a key difference between this piece and "The Real Obama" pieces I've read. The latter are absolutely delusional, unhinged, drooling-at-the-mouth crazy---and 100 percent bullshit.

And yet these pieces are routinely sent out by the tens of millions via email.

I routinely get them myself. Everyone I know who is a Republican seems to be in the habit of forwarding these emails, unsolicited, to anyone they have an email address for.

As a result, I routinely get all kinds of crazy anti-Obama emails. I've gotten around 50 "Obama is a radical Muslim!" emails alone.
No wonder something like 10-15 percent of Americans still believe Obama is a Muslim.

Back when the Web first became popular, I used to think it might usher in a new era of informed citizenry, because Big Media would no longer have a stranglehold on the flow of information.

To some extent, this has indeed occurred. The problem is that, in addition to getting the truth out, the Internet can also be equally effective for spreading lies, rumors, smear campaigns and general right-wing bullshit.
